Coach ‘Very Proud’ Of Girls’ Football Team

The Pilgrim Academy Girls' Football team with their Coach and Teacher, Mr Jordan Gibbon.

Pilgrim Academy girls competed against seven Primary Schools in what for some was their first ever competitive football tournament.

They entered the Premier League Primary Stars U11 Girls’ Football Tournament. The tournament featured Primary Schools from around the local area, including Scartho Juniors, Wybers Woods and Thrunscoe.

For the Pilgrim team, it was the first time the majority of the children had played football competitively. Despite this inexperience, the girls battled hard across all seven games they played and displayed superb teamwork and determined attitudes.

Mia Cawley, Captain of the team, was a standout performer having scored a wonderful solo goal in the second game of the tournament.

Pilgrim managed to amass four points throughout the tournament, which qualified them for a play-off game to settle fifth and sixth place. After having four shots on goal, including a shot that hit the post, Pilgrim narrowly fell to a 1-0 defeat. This resulted in Pilgrim Academy finishing in sixth place.

Mr Jordan Gibbon, Class Teacher and Coach, said he was extremely proud of the team for their fantastic performances throughout the tournament.

They were rewarded with free tickets to watch Grimsby Town vs Aldershot at Blundell Park. The girls left the tournament feeling inspired to play more football and improve their skills.
