Children Learn How To Cycle Safely

Community Sports Coaches Vicky Loftus, left, and Bernie Johnston, coach Pilgrim Academy pupils on the two-day Bikeability course.

Pilgrim Academy pupils in Years 5 and 6 have been learning how to ride their bicycles safely by taking part in the Bikeability scheme. Bikeability is the Government’s National Cycle Training Programme, based on the National Standard for Cycle Training.

Cycling is a life skill with many benefits. It encourages independent mobility, is great for the environment, and improves physical and mental health. The two-day Bikeability course builds the skills and confidence of children who can already ride and prepares them for a lifetime of cycling.

Year 5 pupils Imogen Cook and Alfie Shepherd take part in the Bikeability Scheme, giving them the skills and confidence to ride safely.
