Balance Bikes Help Young Children To Master Cycling From An Early Age

Pilgrim Academy Nursery and Reception children get used to balance bikes as they master the art of cycling from an early age during a special six-week ‘bikeability’ course.

Forty children in Nursery and Reception are currently taking part in the ‘Bikeability Plus Balance Scheme,’ which began this week.

The children are using balance bikes to look at different aspects of cycling as part of the six-week course, including getting used to controlling the bike, gliding (lifting your legs off the bike), roundabouts and dealing with obstacles.

Vice Principal, Mrs Kayleigh Morley, who organised the event, said: "The children are having a fantastic time. It is great that they have the opportunity to learn the basics of riding a bike at an early stage.”
