Mrs Ireson And Mrs Backhouse Remember Their Grandads

Mrs Ireson and Mrs Backhouse's Family War Time Stories...

Mrs Backhouse and I have rung our mum and dad and they told us some really interesting information. This is what we found out…

Our grandad, Kenneth Blacklock, served in WWII. He was a key member of the RAF throughout the war effort. During the 1940s he was deployed to Aden and Egypt to serve as an RAF chef. His job was vital as he was responsible for providing food and nourishment to all of the soldiers during the war.

We spoke to our mum who told us this about her dad…

Our other grandad, Arthur Taylor, was also deployed as a soldier to Egypt during the Second World War. Luckily, he came out of battle unharmed and was able to marry the love of his life, Lorna, on Boxing Day 1945. Their love survived the war and they went on to be married for 50 years! What an achievement. 😊
