Pilgrim Academy PTA

Enthusiastic parents and staff have formed Pilgrim Academy Parent Teacher Association. The committee, a separate entity to the school, will raise funds to provide additional opportunities for the children.

Its first event is a book sale at the Academy this Wednesday (20th) at 3.30pm, coinciding with parents evening. Next will be a family Easter Bingo session on Tuesday 26 March at 5pm, in the Main Hall. Tickets will be bought through Parent Pay at a cost of £5 per book of 5 tickets and we will be in touch with parents when these are available to buy. You will receive your tickets on the night. The closing date to buy tickets will be Friday 22 March.

Prizes will include a range of Easter Eggs and be awarded for a line or full house for each game. If anyone would like to donate a prize, please hand in at Reception or to your child’s class teacher. Plans are also being put in place to organise a summer fair and a car boot sale.

The committee is made up of eight parents and three staff, with roles including fundraising and events coordinator, social media coordinator and two finance officers. Becky Towler-Lumsden, who works in the school office and is a parent at Pilgrim, volunteered for the social media role. She said: “As a member of staff and a parent I see it as an exciting opportunity. It can make a real difference to our children.”

A private group has been established on Facebook - Pilgrim Academy Parent Teacher Association - Parents Group - to keep the school community informed of events and activities. Principal Rachel Clarke had wanted to repeat the success she had experienced elsewhere and the school becomes the first in Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust to form a PTA.
“I’m delighted to get it off the ground and there was a lot of enthusiasm at the first meeting,” she said.
“We would like to get more parents involved in the school.
“We would like it to supplement what we already provide children. The school budget can only go so far.
“The funds it raises will directly benefit the children and who better to run it than parents.”
She hoped parents and the wider Pilgrim community would get behind the committee.
“This will work with the support of our wonderful families. It has been positively received and the committee’s size and make up reflects the enthusiasm.”
