I would like to thank all those parents who came to Pilgrim Academy recently to experience the learning taking place in their child's class. I would have liked to have dipped into classrooms to talk to you but unfortunately we had a member of staff absent so I was teaching. I hope you had the opportunity to have a look around and see the changes. Any comments you would like to make would be appreciated.
Whole School Assembly
Each Monday, I take a whole school assembly when we share children's achievements. I give out the Star of the Week certificates, talk about attendance and share with the children which house had the most house points. If your child takes part in out of school activities e.g. Gymnastic club, cubs, rainbows etc. and they would like to bring in badges or trophies to share with the other children, please encourage them to do so. I really enjoy finding out about what the children are doing out of school.
I'm sure your child will have come home and told you about our reading challenge. If they achieve the challenge, the children will be given a reward afternoon at the end of the half term, where they can choose between a number of fun activities. To achieve, the children have to read at home at least 3 times a week. Please help them achieve the reading challenge.
Could I please remind parents that we do have a uniform policy at Pilgrim Academy. A sweatshirt/cardigan, P.E. top, book bag and P.E. bag have been paid for by Tollbar Multi Academy Trust. What we do ask is that parents provide proper cotton shirts for all children other than Nursery age children. Some children are still wearing polo shirts. This is not part of the academy uniform. I have also noticed that some children are wearing trainers. Again, this is not part of the academy uniform. Examples of the correct footwear can be found on the Pilgrim Academy website. The list below shows the requirements of the academy uniform. I have been reliably informed that Uniform Direct now has stock in their shop.
Pilgrim Academy's uniform policy includes:
We have added an additional date to our dates for diary. Christmas lunch will now take place on Wednesday 13 December 2017. Even if your child would normally have packed lunch, they are invited to have Christmas lunch that day. All you have to do is to book on line. I will send a letter about the lunch nearer to the time.
Parents of children in Indus class will be aware that Miss Murray has not been in school last week. Miss Murray came to see me on Friday after school and has made the decision to resign her post at Pilgrim with immediate effect. We have managed to employ a very experienced Key Stage 1 teacher, Mrs Ainley, who will be teaching Indus class until Christmas. Although we would ideally have liked to keep Mrs Ainley until the end of the summer term, she is very much in demand and has other commitments after Christmas. By employing Mrs Ainley until Christmas, this will give the Multi Academy Trust the chance to recruit someone to take the class in January 2018. Mrs Ainley will be present at the Indus parents evening for you to meet her.
We welcome your comments regarding this newsletter or any other matters.
