Children at Pilgrim Academy took part in a special Maths Day in a bid to raise aspirations across the academy.
Teachers from Tollbar Multi Academy Trust have been brought in to the academy since it joined the Trust last year to boost pupils' performance in both English and Maths. Sisters Rachel Backhouse and Joanne Ireson teach Maths and English respectively and class share the Year 6 pupils.
Pupils responded by throwing themselves fully into the Maths Day. Jacob Clark (5) said: "I like Maths. It's hard. I'm better at Maths than my sister."
Rachel Backhouse said: "Encouraging the children to find enjoyment in Maths is half the battle and they all seemed to take to the Maths Day and get really involved in the tasks."
