Spectacular Jubilee Bake Sale Raises £500 For Charity

June Eaton and her grandson Alfie Hynes choose some cakes from the Platinum Jubilee Bake Sale at Pilgrim Academy. More than 1,000 cakes were donated by parents for the after-school sale and raised more than £500 for the Queen's charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Parents and carers at Pilgrim Academy baked more than 1,000 cakes for a Platinum Jubilee Bake Sale, which raised over £500 for the Queen’s chosen charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The spectacular bake sale meant that the cakes covered the entire Academy stage, and hundreds of visitors turned out to buy them. The Academy was so busy that Principal Andy Clark joked that half of Immingham must have turned out.

Members of the Student Leadership Team and House Captains were run off their feet serving the hundreds of visitors during the after-school event, which was organised by Year 6 Teacher Joanne Ireson.

She said: “We simply cannot believe the response to this. The parents and carers have been absolutely amazing in their generosity. We have some wonderful cakes celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, adorned with crowns and flags and jewels. The response is unbelievable.”

Once the visitors had chosen their cakes, they were treated to two performances to celebrate the Jubilee. Members of the Pilgrim Academy Cheerleading Team, made up of pupils from Years 3-6, performed on the stage to songs from each decade of the Queen’s 70-year reign.

The Jubilee Choir, made up of children from Reception to Year 6,  then performed outside in the Academy garden with two songs to celebrate the Jubilee. The first was ‘Platinum Jubilee’ and the second was Gary Barlow’s ’Sing,’ which was written for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Pilgrim Academy Principal Andy Clark, thanked parents and carers for their “tremendous response’ to the bake sale. “We are a school for the community and most of the community is here today. It is fantastic to see,” he said.

Year 6 pupils, Kristian Ninov and Bozhidar Georgiev, show off some of the amazing Jubilee cakes donated to the Pilgrim Academy Bake Sale by parents. With them is organiser and Year 6 Teacher Joanne Ireson.
